“ I focus on the fundamentals of a great photograph, instead of tacky posed photos that have been done by millions of other people”

Why You Don’t Need Posed Portraits

Okay, here’s the hard truth. This may sting a little. The majority of the time, photographers are just using poses they found on Pinterest. They’ve been used by millions of other people. These poses often look popular now, but in 15 years they will be outdated.

Another secret. Do you know where posing came from? The first cameras used hundreds of years ago couldn’t capture any movement or it would blur. This is 2025, you can move as much as you want and the camera will still capture it perfectly!

Despite what you may think, it doesn’t take much to get a great portrait. When I look at other portraits of people I can 100% tell which smiles came naturally and which ones were prompted by the photographer, and so can other people.

If you’re thinking “ I won’t know what to do, unless I’m told”, I promise you, it will be so much easier than you think. Just think of it as we are just hanging out, chatting a little while I’m taking photographs of you.

Don’t worry, I will still tell you where the best spot is for light and composition and help move things along. As a photographer that has done over 450 portrait/family sessions, I don’t need much from you to get great portraits.
