There are families you photograph once, and then there are families who invite you back year after year. Those are the relationships I value most.
I've had the privilege of documenting this family through multiple seasons of their lives, and every session feels less like meeting clients and more like catching up with old friends. Watching their daughter, Louie, grow over the years has been one of the greatest joys of my work as a documentary family photographer.
This Christmas session was no different.
Instead of squeezing everything into a quick 30-minute mini session, we spent a couple of hours together, allowing the afternoon to unfold naturally. That's one of the biggest advantages of longer documentary sessions—there's no rush. Children have time to warm up, parents can relax, and real life has room to happen.
Louie spent the afternoon doing what children do best: playing, exploring, laughing, and moving from one little adventure to the next. Rather than asking her to stop and smile every few minutes, I simply followed along with my camera, documenting the moments her family will someday miss the most.

The holidays have a way of slowing life down just enough for families to reconnect. Christmas decorations fill the home, familiar traditions return, and children experience the season with a kind of wonder that's impossible to recreate later in life.

Looking back, it's incredible to see just how much can change in a single year.
