Some moments are worth remembering exactly as they happened. Saeid had something special planned for Ray: a surprise proposal at Reynolda Gardens in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. However, he told Rey this was just a couples session, so she had no idea what was about to happen.
Saeid asked Ray to spend the rest of their lives together. What began as an ordinary moment quickly became something neither of them would forget.
I had the opportunity to photograph the proposal as it unfolded, documenting the anticipation, the surprise, and the emotions that followed. Once the excitement settled in, we spent some time making portraits of the two of them throughout the gardens, right as the sun was setting on a fall day, which made for some beautiful, dramatic lighting.
Reynolda Gardens offered a beautiful setting for the afternoon, with its winding paths, thoughtfully maintained gardens, and natural surroundings. It was a wonderful place to slow down and let the two of them enjoy the moment.
